Located within the Gold Coast University Private Hospital, Queensland X-Ray delivers imaging services to both inpatients of the hospital and the general public.

Queensland X-Ray’s location at the new award-winning medical hub in Bowen Hills presented the opportunity to create a new style of fitout for the brand within an existing warehouse setting. The design concept works within the constraints of the existing structure, with clinical spaces positioned in single storey pods, accentuated by continuous strip lighting. Corridors and circulation spaces feature no ceilings, ensuring that the full double height volume, natural light and nature of the warehouse can be experienced by staff and patients.
Internally, the materials of the warehouse have been retained and expressed to compliment the clinical fitout. The standard finishes palate was customised to suit the tenancy, as well as the high level of design present in the wider facility, to create a refined fitout for the clinic. Natural light from the warehouse’s clerestory window enhances the volume throughout the clinic. In spaces such as the Reception and Main Waiting Area, reflected light is used to amplify the height, while warmth has been added throughout the space through the use of feature pendant light fittings.
The design team established a robust and concise design concept which Queensland X-Ray fully embraced. Sharing and understanding the design concept with the D&C team enabled quick yet considered decision making on site. This ensured alternatives could be proposed with detailed solutions presented that were in line with, and further strengthened, the conceptual design.
The end result is a fitout that balances design and efficiency, while also feeling at home within the warehouse aesthetic. Feedback from their staff is that they love the fitout and there is a strong desire to work in the practice. Likewise, patients have received the clinic well and feel comfortable and safe in the environment.
