Due to the expected growth of the John Flynn Private Hospital over recent years, Ramsay Health Care needed to fast track the vision to construct a new four story building to house more than 20 specialist suites and a separate building with associated carparks. Perched on the high side of the steep campus site, the specialist suites overlook the Gold Coast beaches and airport. The suites are now home to numerous specialist doctors, ever increasing Ramsay’s services to the community.
The design maximises the breathtaking ocean and hill top views while working within the constraints of the existing medical centre floor to floor heights. The external architectural language ties elements back to the main hospital while still maintaining its own identity within the campus. The use of sunshading and linear elements creates a horizontal aesthetic to the building. This design intent is being proposed for the future expansion to strengthen the concept.
Internally, the corridors are lit with feature ceiling bulkhead lighting to increase the perception of the volume of space. The internal finishes palette is light and minimal with a coastal theme to increase patient experience and comfort. The specialist suites project is the first step in the overall master plan with Stage 2 of the specialist suites expansion already in discussion.
