SAE is viewed as the ‘world’s leading educator in creative media industries’ with 54 campuses in 28 countries.  They sought Phillips Smith Conwell’s expertise to review options for remaining in their East Perth campus or relocation to new premises.  The result was the development of a new campus in Northbridge alongside Perth’s City Link project and amongst Perth’s live music venues, creative agencies and the Perth Cultural Centre.

The new campus saw a 70% expansion of facilities including recording studios, live rooms, computer labs, theater and a cyclorama room.  A high level of technical resolution was required to integrate acoustic requirements and building services while working with an irregular structural system. The building, once an ice cream factory, exposes its character and history by linking more recently created tenancies and levels, and exposing original brickwork and structure.  Commissioned street art on internal walls, LED feature lighting and breakout zones combine to enhance this student focused environment.  Since completion new enrollments have exceeded SAE’s expectations.
