SAE Perth were looking to review their options for remaining at their East Perth campus or relocating to a new premise. Through a feasibility process, our recommendation was to develop a new campus in Northbridge – alongside Perth’s City Link project and amongst the city’s live music venues, creative agencies and Cultural Centre.
The building – once an ice cream factory – features original brickwork, structure and character which provides a connection to its history. Modern levels and tenancies were inserted within the space, with commissioned internal street art, LED feature lighting and breakout zones enhancing the student focussed environment.
The new campus has seen a 70% expansion of facilities including recording studios, live rooms, computer labs, theatre and a cyclorama room. A high level of technical resolution was needed to integrate acoustic requirements and building services within an historical building which provided an irregular structural system to work within. Since completion, SAE has reported increased enrolments beyond their expectations.
