This new sports facility at St Peters Indooroopilly Campus supports the training of students and visiting international athletes. The brief was to provide a centralised sports hub for the schools tennis, swimming training and competitions, however in reality showcasing the two distinct sporting activities was a central factor.
Though designed to fit onto one resumed tennis court, a high level of amenity has been provided. The project includes an international standard immersion recovery tub room, gymnasium, change facilities, training staff offices and a commercial kitchen.
The building simultaneously services each sport without crossover of students and spectators. The western aspect addresses the 50 metre competition pool precinct, and the eastern aspect addresses the array of international standard tennis courts. Each has its own corresponding colour scheme and finishes palette to identify the sport.
The construction presented several challenges in the delivery as it was overlayed with the existing occupied pool and tennis courts with no downtime on a seven-day use programme. The elaborate pool filtration, heating and pump was also required to remain fully functional throughout the build and was successfully achieved without incident.
The project was completed on time and under budget, the Client described the delivery and final built result as exceeding all their expectations. At a macro scale, the building complements a twenty-year campus master plan also developed by PSC.
