Borallon Correctional Centre was vacated in 2012 with the opening of the Southern Queensland Correctional Centre.  With the prison population increase across the state, the Queensland Government decided to re-open the aging facility.

The project required the refurbishment of the entire Correctional Centre (46 buildings in total) to accept 492 prisoners.

The scope included:

  • Expansion of the existing central kitchen
  • New central Laundry
  • New central staff dining
  • New dog squad
  • New SMS training simulator
  • Upgrades to mechanical, fire, hydraulics, electrical and security services.
  • Upgrade and commissioning of waste water treatment plant.

In September 2015, The Queensland Government announced the change of name to the Borallon Training and Correctional Centre.
